Equal opportunity
Students with disabilities or with serious chronic diseases which make the learning process difficult are entitled to certain support.
Based on the Hungarian law students with disabilities are those students who are living with physical disability, visual or hearing impairment, specific learning difficulties and neurodevelopmental disorders (e. g. dyslexia, ADHD), speaking disabilities, autism-spectrum disorders, or with multiple disabilities. Although the law does not include it, our university helps students with permanent medical treatment needs too, in case of conditions of special needs affecting the learning process (ELTE academic regulations for students, paragraph 208, chapter XIII).
The faculty coordinator and the ELTE’s Office for Supporting Students’ Special Needs are jointly responsible for supporting the learning process of the students with disabilities.
To validate the right to use any kind of support, students must be registered as students with disabilities by the disability coordinator of the faculty. The email address of the coordinator is: equal.opp@ppk.elte.hu
The method of registration and the certification of special needs
Students must register and indicate their requirement for a given form of the assistance. Students must register at the disability coordinator of the faculty, Katalin Solymosi.
Registration is possible at any time but advisable in the beginning of the academic year. Students who want to validate their right already in the first semester to use their benefit for applying for the courses (extra 1000 ranking points) should register by the coordinator a few days after the enrolment, but the latest two days before the end of the ranking course registration week. Otherwise they can validate this right only in the next semester.
For the registration students must present the medical certificate on their special needs and the completed registration form.
To certify special needs in case of foreign students is possible only with the original medical certificate issued by the foreign institute and – if it is not written in English – with its authenticated translation in English or in Hungarian.
In any case the official certificate must include:
the name of disability student; the institute and/or the name of the person what/who conducted/made the investigation; the date of examination, the date of issuing of certificate, and the exact place (address) where it was done; the name of the disability or the disease (BNO code), its degree of seriousness or the level – permanent or temporary – of the health related harm. If the medical certificate prescribes review date, after the validation of the certificate expired, it needs to be submitted a new certificate.
