Historical Collection of Social Psychology

Historical Collection of Social Psychology

The unique book collection was entrusted to a Board of Trustees associated with ELTE in 2004 by William McGuire (1925–2007) - an epoch-making American professor of social psychology, professor at Yale University, and honorary doctor of ELTE – in order to support the work of the Doctoral School of Psychology and to be the starting point for research on the history of science.

The private collection of books and journals accumulated by Professor McGuire in the course of his work is unique and unrepeatable.

The volumes and 17 journal series are valuable historical resources mainly for practitioners of social psychology and its frontier sciences, but there are also works from several other disciplines, as well as works on the history and methodology of science.

After the death of the founder, the McGuire family will further enrich the number of journals. Dr. Professor György Hunyady has developed a special collection of domestic and foreign publications within the framework of the collection, which is also constantly updated by the book material obtained through tender sources.

The collection is located on the 2nd floor of the Institute of Psychology of Eötvös Loránd University, room 215 / b.
