Gian Vittorio Caprara is one of the world-renowned and most cited contemporary European representatives of personality psychology, and Professor Emeritus at La Sapienza University in Rome. His half-century of academic work is marked by 575 scientific publications and 20 summarizing and research volumes. His research focuses on the fundamental issues of personality and the role of personality in influencing political, social and economic processes.

The Big Five Questionnaire for the assessment of the basic dimensions of personality, the questionnaires for the assessment of moral and civic disengagement mechanisms, and the various scales for measuring aggression, prosocialness, self efficacy beliefs and positive orientation represent major contributions to the toolbox of personality assessment methods.

In the last decade, he developed the construct of positivity, and his cross-cultural research and studies with twins have demonstrated that positive orientation can be identified as a latent dimension in the background of optimism, life satisfaction and self-esteem. He is a member of several international scientific societies and the former president of the European Association of Personality. Since the 1980s, Professor Caprara has been involved in ongoing research and consultation with researchers at the Institute of Psychology at ELTE.

More recently, the PPK Positive Psychology Research Group has been conducting joint research under his direction to test the applicability of the Positivity Scale in Hungary and the validity of the instrument.

All teachers and students of ELTE PPK are welcome to attend the lecture.
