Policymakers across Europe struggle to understand how emotions, values and identities interact with political decision-making and how to integrate the emotional dimension of politics into their policies. Furthermore, the fourth industrial revolution is creating new spaces of engagement for policymakers and citizens engagement, but the complex impact of online interaction and the emerging digital universes on democratic governance remains unclear and undertheorised. MORES argues that better understanding of the role of moral emotions in politics – which is a neglected approach in the field of study of political emotions – can provide key insights into making policymaking more responsive to citizens’ and policymakers’ emotional needs and values.
