Julie Gottlieb, a professor at the University of Sheffield, will give an English-language lecture exploring the film The Nervous State.

The 19-minute short film is a co-production of Professor Julie Gottlieb and filmmaker Nicola Baldwin, inspired by the book Journal Under the Terror, 1938 by Cambridge academic F. L. Lucas. The film features the Cambridge academic reflecting on family tragedies, a foreboding sense of World War II, and the societal anxiety experienced at the time. In this way, high politics and the “war of nerves” become accessible from a personal perspective.

Following the screening, Gábor Csikós and Xenia Roszik-Volovik, lecturers at the Faculty of Education and Psychology, will have a discussion with the professor about her research, followed by an opportunity for audience questions.

Date: December 9, 2024, 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM
Location: ELTE Faculty of Education and Psychology (1075 Budapest, Kazinczy Street 23-27), Room 215 or Zoom
Registration is mandatory for personal appearances.
