Provisions for students
Declaration obligation: If the use of AI is permitted in the course (yellow or green mark), students must record their use in writing using the modular template available on this website, as specified in Annex 3. The purpose of the declaration is to provide a transparent summary of the technology used and the methodology of the work. The declaration must include the following three elements:
Use of tools: The exact name of the model used (e.g. ChatGPT 5.2) and the purpose of use (e.g. writing an outline).
Output management: The student must declare whether they used the generated content indirectly (for planning, brainstorming, without directly using the content), in an integrated manner (as content generation, after verification) or in a mixed manner.
Ethical and professional responsibility: The student certifies with their statement that they have reviewed the final content, checked the sources, and that the attached documentation reflects the actual work process.
Documentation: The student is required to substantiate the authenticity of the statement with the specific attachments specified by the instructor in the course description.
Protection of the authenticity of student work: In order to protect the authenticity and authorship of student work (even if not required by the instructor), students are strongly encouraged to record the work process and document the use of AI tools (e.g., cloud-based editing, where the version history is retained). In the event of a dispute or suspicion, the lack of this data may limit the student's ability to prove their case.
Thesis declaration: When submitting theses, dissertations and portfolios, students are required to sign the Faculty's updated declaration of originality, which also includes a detailed statement on the use (or non-use) of artificial intelligence (Annex 4).
Legal consequences: Making a false declaration by the student will result in disciplinary proceedings.
Conscientious exemption: Students may request that the instructor provide an AI-free alternative for completing the assignment if they reject the use of generative AI on ethical, data protection or sustainability grounds, or for reasons of conscience. This right cannot be exercised in courses where the declared learning outcome specified in the syllabus is explicitly the acquisition of AI competence.
Student AI statement
In order to ensure the transparency of student work, the AI statement is a mandatory component of assignments to be submitted. This statement serves as a summary: it briefly records the technology used and the methodology of the work, while the detailed documentation is contained in the attachments according to the course requirements. By making the declaration, the student also certifies the content of the attached documentation. The declarations can be modified and personalised in line with the course requirements.
If the use of AI tools was prohibited during the completion of the assignment or if the student did not use them, we recommend using the following statement:
"I did not use any generative AI tools to complete the assignment. I declare, in full awareness of my professional responsibility, that the work is entirely my own intellectual product."
If the use of AI is permitted in the course (yellow or green mark) and the student has used AI tools, we recommend using the following modular template for the statement. The purpose of the statement is to provide a transparent summary of the technology used and the methodology of the work, with reference to the detailed documentation required by the course. The statement must contain the following three elements:
1. Use of tools
"I used the [Tool name, version] model to solve the task. Purpose of use: [Briefly: e.g. brainstorming / code correction / translation]."
2. Output management and documentation
Indirect/supportive use: "I did not directly incorporate the content generated by AI into my work; the tool was used solely to support the preparation. I have attached the documentation required by the course to verify this."
Content generation / integrated use: "I integrated the content generated by AI into the document after checking and correcting it. The steps of validation and revision are included in the attached documentation required by the course."
Mixed/hybrid use: "I used a mixed methodology to complete the task: I used the tool to support the planning phase on the one hand, and for specific content generation on the other. I validated and integrated the generated elements, and the details of the process are included in the attached documentation required by the course."
3. Ethical and professional clause
"Aware of my professional and disciplinary responsibilities, I declare that I take sole responsibility for the content of the submitted work. I understand that any factual errors, hallucinations or distortions by the AI are not exonerating circumstances. I declare that I have accurately stated the extent of AI use in this statement and the attached documentation. I further declare that I have critically reviewed the generated output and complied with data protection regulations."
Specific examples
Example 1: The student collected ideas and wrote an outline for a seminar paper but wrote the text in its entirety themselves.
The possible documentation requirement prescribed by the instructor: selective prompt log (at the end of the submission, list the 3-5 most important instructions (prompts) on a separate page)
Example for a student statement:
"I used the ChatGPT-4o model to complete the assignment. Purpose of use: To assist in choosing a topic (brainstorming), compiling a logical outline for the paper, and searching for key terms in the literature.
I did not directly include the content generated by AI in my work; the tool was used solely to support the preparation. To verify this, I have attached the documentation required by the course.
Aware of my professional and disciplinary responsibility, I declare that I take sole responsibility for the content of the submitted work. I understand that any factual errors, hallucinations or distortions by the AI are not exonerating circumstances. I declare that I have accurately stated the extent of AI use in this statement and the attached documentation. I further declare that I have critically reviewed the generated output and complied with data protection regulations.
Example 2: Psychological statistics course, generating R or SPSS syntax for data analysis.
The possible documentation requirement specified by the instructor: commented code/annotation (Provide the submitted syntax file with detailed comments that describe its operation and make it transparent. Indicate separately if you had to correct the code generated by AI.)
Example for a student statement:
"I used the ChatGPT-4o model to solve the task. Purpose of use: R syntax generation for database cleaning (recoding) and running multivariate regression analysis.
After checking the content (code) generated by the AI, I integrated it into the document. The steps of validation and revision (testing the generated code on my own data) are included in the attached documentation required by the course.
Aware of my professional and disciplinary responsibility, I declare that I take sole responsibility for the content of the submitted work. I acknowledge that any factual errors, hallucinations or distortions by the AI are not exonerating circumstances. I declare that I have accurately stated the extent of AI use in this statement and in the attached documentation. I further declare that I have critically reviewed the generated output and complied with data protection regulations.
Example 3: Writing a literature review or essay where the student generated a raw text and then heavily rewritten it.
The possible documentation requirement specified by the instructor: track changes (Please upload your assignment in a Word document with the 'Track Changes' function enabled. The document must show the original (generated) text and the edits and corrections made by the student. Alternative solution, in the cloud: Attach the Google Docs/OneDrive link with editor rights, where the editing process can be tracked in the 'Version History'.)
Example for a student statement:
"I used the Claude 3.5 Sonnet model to complete the task. Purpose of use: To generate the first draft of the introductory chapter and to translate/summarise English-language sources.
After checking and correcting the content generated by the AI, I integrated it into my thesis. The steps of validation and revision are included in the documentation required by the attached course.
Aware of my professional and disciplinary responsibility, I declare that I take sole responsibility for the content of the submitted work. I understand that any factual errors, hallucinations or distortions by the AI are not exonerating circumstances. I declare that I have accurately reported the extent of AI use in this statement and the attached documentation. I further declare that I have critically reviewed the generated output and complied with data protection regulations.
