Peer support

The International Peer-Counselling Organisation (IPCO) is a student-led volunteer initiative dedicated to supporting the well-being of international students at Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE). Through peer-led group activities and individual peer support conversations, IPCO aims to create a supportive and inclusive community where students can connect, share experiences, and navigate the challenges of university life together.

IPCO’s mission is to promote mental well-being, raise awareness about student challenges, and provide accessible peer support throughout students' academic journeys at ELTE.

Who Are We?

The IPCO team consists of Psychology MA students. All peer support volunteers receive training and work under the professional supervision of licensed psychologists from the ELTE Counselling Centre.

Peer-Led Group Activities

Our workshops, discussion groups, and community events provide opportunities for students to:

  • Connect with fellow international students
  • Share experiences and perspectives
  • Learn practical strategies for personal growth and well-being
  • Explore topics related to mental health and student life
  • Build a sense of belonging within the ELTE community

Through interactive discussions and activities, IPCO encourages learning, self-reflection, and mutual support in a welcoming environment.

One-on-One Peer Support Conversations

Sometimes it helps to talk things through with someone who understands the student experience. IPCO offers individual peer support conversations where students can:

  • Reflect on personal or academic challenges
  • Gain clarity about their thoughts and feelings
  • Explore coping strategies and available resources
  • Receive support in a safe and non-judgmental environment

Topics may include adjustment to university life, academic stress, procrastination, relationships, self-esteem, anxiety, cultural adaptation, and other everyday challenges students may encounter.

Students may receive up to three individual peer support conversations. Each conversation lasts approximately 50 minutes and can be held either in person or online.

Confidentiality and Professional Supervision

IPCO is committed to providing a respectful, supportive, and confidential environment. All peer support volunteers follow the ethical guidelines and code of conduct established for the program and receive ongoing professional supervision from the ELTE Counselling Centre.

Eligibility and Contact

All services are free of charge for international students with an active student status at ELTE.
