Counselling Centre
The Counselling Centre provides free psychological support to all ELTE students and employees, both in English and Hungarian.
What we offer
Studying or working abroad might be challenging at points, and sometimes you might feel that it is difficult to cope with everything alone. If you would like to talk to a professional in a safe, supportive and non-judgmental environment, please feel free to reach out to us to discuss your concerns. This service is free of charge, and is totally confidential.
Some of the most common issues we usually address include
Academic difficulties (e.g. motivation, procrastination, burnout)
Relationship issues (friends, family, romantic partners)
Coping with loss and grief
Dealing with anxiety, lack of self-esteem, loneliness or depression
Managing mood swings, anger issues or other emotional challenges
Coping with the independence and responsibilities that arise from being away from home
How it works
At our centre, we offer short-term psychological counselling. As opposed to long-term therapies, a short-term counselling process is more focused and goal-oriented, and it usually revolves around the most important or relevant problem you face in your current life situation. The counselling sessions can help you clarify issues, identify effective strategies to cope, and you can begin to implement changes to see positive improvements in your life.
Students can attend a maximum of 6 sessions per academic year, but they can register with the Counselling Centre again in each academic year. If you need more specified, more in-depth or longer treatment which the Counselling Centre cannot provide, your psychologist will inform you about your options and will refer you to an external setting (e.g. a local government outpatient clinic, based on your insurance).
Counselling sessions are held in complete confidence, in accordance with the regulations laid down in the Ethical Code of psychologists, and employees of the Counselling Centre are bound by legal obligations of confidentiality. Please find our privacy notice here.
