The memory effect of unexpectedness

Memory encoding is influenced by how different the current experience is from prior knowledge. This difference is most universally captured by the concept of unexpectedness, this can describe novel and surprising events too. The aim of the research project is to develop a framework to study the memory effects of unexpectedness.
