Main research areas
The crisis of confidence in psychology has created an extraordinary opportunity for the discipline to reform. These reforms range from advances in research methodology, to the emergence of new measurement methods, to the application of open science principles, to drastic improvements in the efficiency of data analysis methods. In my research, I explore the applicability of these methods in psychology. Another area of my research is the cataloguing and exploration of questionable research practices that are partly responsible for the replication and reliability crisis in psychology.
Current emotion theories acknowledge that the emotional experience is constructed from several components. Over time, more weight has been attributed to one or the other specific emotional antecedent such as physiological changes, cognitive appraisal, environmental cues, involuntary movements, cultural influences, and others. However, to this date, no unified theory of emotion exists, and several questions remain open. Using a novel research paradigm and advances in research methodology, we want to systematically investigate how physiological arousal influences our emotions, cognition, and behavior.
